ZAGREB, Oct 6 (Hina) - About a hundred members of the Croatian
Federation of Disabled War Veterans (HVIDRA) today protested
against the slowness in solving their housing problems and the
"illegal activity" of the Croatian Helsinki Committee and other
human rights committees.
The protest rally was organized at VIDRA's instigation in
Velika Gorica, 20 km south of Zagreb, outside the building at 17
Divko Budak Street.
The protesters were joined by several members of the Croatian
War Volunteers Association, the Widows' Association and HVIDRA's
parliamentary deput.
The protesters ended up outside the Bajbutovic apartment on
the tenth floor of the buidling and HVIDRA members tried to
forcefully evict the family they regarded as illegal tenants.
Several HVIDRA members got into the flat and decided to stay
inside until a valid eviction note was issued and until the flat
was allocated to a HVIDRA member.
The protesters said the purpose of their rally was to focus
public attention on disabled war veterans' housing problems.
Police did not intervene because there were no incidents.
Military police also arrived at the scene.
Details of the flat and Bajbutkovic family could not be
obtained from authorities.
