SARAJEVO, Oct 5 (Hina) - Sarajevo Airport should be soon reopened
according to UNPROFOR guarantees, Vice President of the Federation
of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ejup Ganic, said today meeting UN special
envoy Yasushi Akashi.
The Bosnian capital would again receive medicine and food
supplies via the airport as the major channel for aid delivery.
The issue of reopening the airport was extremely important and
would be raised resolutely in talks with Bosnian Serb military and
political leaders, Akashi said.
At a press conference in Sarajevo Ganic criticized UNPROFOR's
position on the use of NATO air power.
He said that UNPROFOR's tactic of limiting NATO air strikes
was ineffective and could not contribute to a peaceful settlement
on the ground.
Ganic also said he had warned UN officials that Bosnian Serbs
were preparing a new offensive against western Bosnia.
After talks with Ganic, UN special envoy Akashi and UNPROFOR
chief for civilian affairs Sergio de Mello, along with Generals De
Lapresle and Rose, travelled to the Serb stronghold of Pale.
