SARAJEVO, Oct 5 (Hina) - The exchange of 300 prisoners-of-war that
should have taken place today at the Sarajevo "Bratstvo-Jedinstvo"
bridge was postponed until midnight, the International Committee of
the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Sarajevo said.
The exchange was postponed because several seriously wounded
could not be evacuated from Gorazde to Sarajevo. Their evacuation
from the eastern Moslem enclave was the prerequisite for the POW
swap.
Moslems and Serbs agreed on the POWs exchange last Saturday.
UNPROFOR Spokeswoman Claire Grimes said bad weather today had
prevented medical evacuations from being carried out by UN
helicopter. UN peacekeepers had to organize transportation of the
wounded by road.
The Serbs, only after lengthy negotiation, gave permission
today for the free passage of UNPROFOR convoy transporting 26
wounded and 24 members of their families. The convoy is expected to
arrive in Sarajevo late this evening.
