ZAGREB, Oct 4, (Hina) - Croatia was prepared to extend every
possible assistance to help the International War Crimes Court in
the Hague, the president of the Croatian Supreme Court, Milan
Vukovic, said today.
Vukovic, who also heads the Croatian Government's Commission
for War Crimes, was speaking after a meeting in Zagreb with an
International War Crimes Court delegation led by prosecutor Richard
Gledstone.
Vukovic said the War Crimes Commission was ready to hand the
International Court all documents available on war crimes committed
in Croatia.
He also extended an offer to the International Court
delegation, inviting Court officials to observe the war-crime
trials process in Croatian courts.
"We told prosecutor Gledstone that the International Court
could have two Vukovar war-crime offenders, now in a jail in
Croatia, if it wanted them," Vukovic said.
There were 107 convicted war criminals in Croatia and a
further 800 charged with war-crime offences.
Asked whether he believed the International Court in the Hague
was determined to put on trial both war-crime offenders and those
who ordered the offences, Vukovic said, "we can anticipate thorough
and excellent work from the Court."
The International Court delegation on Wednesday travels to
Sarajevo and then to Belgrade.
