ZADAR, Sep 14 (Hina) - Serbs from UNPA South are more and more
reluctant to live the disengagement zone, UN spokesman Alun Roberts
said at today's press conference in Zadar.
About 50 Serb soldiers remained at about 20 locations in the
zone, while about 20 Croats remained at about six locations,
Roberts said adding that Serbs also fortified themselves in Lisani
Tinjski, Morpolaca, Gubavica near Tinje and Vuksic in Lika.
The Croatian army and Serb paramilitary formations formed a
2km demilitarized zone when they withdrew from the front line in
conformity the 29 March agreement on ceasing of hostilities, signed
in Zagreb between Croatian Government's representatives and
representatives of the Serb separatists in the occupied Croatian
areas. Only UNPROFOR's presence is allowed in the zone, and U.N.
peace-keepers should monitor the implementation of the agreement.
Talking about the murder of two Croatian defenders, committed
near Stankovci on 8 September, in the area controlled by the
Croatian army, Roberts said that UNPROFOR was ready to participate
in the investigation, but the Croatian side had not requested for
it.
Roberts said that UNPROFOR had no information about
perpetrators of the murder. However, Roberts added that he had
denied allegations by the Knin radio that the soldiers killed each
other.
