UNPROFOR ON INCIDENTS IN SECTOR SOUTH

ZADAR, Sept 1 (Hina) - UNPROFOR spokesman in Sector South, Alun Roberts, today said UN civil police were still investigating the Aug 26 murder of a Croatian fisherman at Prokljan Lake (near Sibenik). Roberts also told a news conference in Zadar that a Croatian civilian, Vlado Zelic from Matas (near occupied Drnis) had recently been mobilised by Serb authorities against his will. In early August, Zelic received a mobilisation order, which he ignored. On Aug 24, he was arrested and taken to a Serb stronghold in the Drnis area. According to Roberts, Serb authorities promised not to send him to the first combat lines. Roberts rejected a demand from a Croatian unit stationed at Mount Velebit, to remove a nearby UNPROFOR observation post. He stressed that the post was located in the disengagement zone. Asked whether the Serbs had the right to mobilise a Croatian citizen, Roberts said: "We cannot say it is legal, because they don't have any legislation over there (in Krajina), but the local authorities are adhering to certain procedures."
