OPEN LETTER OF CROATIAN ASSOCIATION OF ANTIFASCISTS

Autor:
ZAGREB, Aug 16 (Hina) - The Association of Croatian Antifascists in the World War II forwarded an open letter to head of the Zagreb city assembly Stjepan Brolich expressing a disagreement with the intention of renaming the Square of Marchal Tito. The Association expresses a disagreement with Brolich's explanation that the square should be renamed as citizens of Zagreb request for it, and asks if a referendum on that issue is carried out. The Association says in the letter, among other things, that 1,300 streets and squares in Zagreb, which names were connected with the antifascist fighting of Croats, have been renamed. Reminding that in the world and Croatia Croatian President Franjo Tudjman refers to the antifascist fighting and especially to the contribution of Josip Broz Tito, the Association stresses that "renaming of streets and squares in order to 'wipe' antifascism in Croatia certainly cannot contribute to our respect."
