SINJ, July 8 (Hina) - The general director of the Croatian Electric
Power Industry (HEP), Damir Begovic and his assistants, visited
today the dam of Peruca (in the hinterland of the Adriatic port of
Split), and expressed satisfaction with the successfully completed
first stage in the reconstruction of the dam.
Last year the dam was severely damaged in the explosion, set
by Serb paramilitary troops from the U.N. Sector South.
Mr. Begovic told journalists that in the second stage of the
reconstruction the repairs on the left section of the dam and the
clay-concrete base should be carried out in the due time. After
that Lake Peruca could accept 450 million square metres of water,
i.e. 85 p.c. of the entire capacity of Peruca accumulation.
The HEP general director also informed that the works on
setting up of the transition lines on Croatian islands would soon
be finished, so that Dalmatia (southern Croatia) would be
reintegrated in Croatia's electric power system. The present
transition lines that pass through the occupied areas of the
Dalmatian hinterland and the area of Lika, have been cut off by
Serb separatists. That's why Dalmatian has suffered from the
electric power shortage.
