PRISTINA, July 8 (Hina) - The Kosovo committee on protection of
human rights and freedoms issued a report today on the repression
over the Albanians, majority of the population on Kosovo,
undertaken by the Serb police and army.
Four Albanians were killed and five wounded from January till
June. Under the pretext of the police's crackdown searching for
arms the police interrogated 3500 people. 3156 people were
subjected to the police's torture. 525 people were physically
abused, 94 of them children and 135 women.
The Serb police punished 665 Albanian young men for their
deserting from the Serb army or rejecting to be conscripted to it.
The report underlines that the number of the registered cases
of abuse was higher in the first half of 1994 than in the entire
1993 year.
