SARAJEVO, July 4 (Hina) - The United States opened an embassy in
Sarajevo on Monday in the presence of Bosnian state and military
officials, diplomats and UNPROFOR representatives. The opening
ceremony was also attended by President of the Bosnian Presidency
Alija Izetbegovic, chairman of the Constituent Assembly of the B-H
Federation Mariofil Ljubic, head of the Croatian Defence Council
(HVO) main HQ General Milivoj Petkovic and Chief Commander of the
Bosnian Army General Rasim Delic.
U.S. Ambassador in Sarajevo Victor Jackovich stressed that it
is a historical moment for both the U.S.A and Bosnia.
"The people of Bosnia have fought a war of resistance for more
than two years against an aggressor with overwhelmingly superior
firepower," said Jackovich adding that the fact that Bosnian
defenders have endured is a tribute to the courage and conviction
of a free people.
Jackovich's remarks on the occasion of the embassy opening
were unequivocal in the U.S. support for the Bosnian government.
