ZAGREB, July 1 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir
Seks said in an interview with Croatian Radio on Friday that
Croatia would insist on UNPROFOR's implementing two UN resolutions
in particular before the expiration of its mandate on September 30.
One resolution says that UN peace-keepers should be deployed
together with Croatian armed forces along the internationally
recognized borders of Croatia in order to prevent any attempts by
the Serbian regime to establish links with or extend support to
Serb rebels in Croatia. The other resolution focuses on restoration
of economic and communication links within Croatia.
Commenting on rallies organized by refugees throughout the
country in protest at UNPROFOR's inefficiency, Seks said that some
UNPROFOR elements were smuggling all sorts of goods which exceeded
humanitarian needs. He added that there was evidence that UN
special envoy Yasushi Akashi had approved a thousand tons of fuel
for rebel Serbs in direct violation of a UN resolution.
"Therefore, both the Government and the Defence and National
Security Council find those protests understandable and justified,"
Seks said.
