VIROVITICA, July 1 (Hina) - Displaced persons in UNPROFOR Sector
West have not stopped any UNPROFOR vehicles or staged any protests
today, said UNPROFOR spokesperson in Sector West Susan Manuel.
According to Daruvar Mayor Ivan Cegledi, the town council has
not yet received any communication from the county authorities
regarding protests against UNPROFOR. "However, if they organise
anything like that, they will have our support," Cegledi said.
He recalled that Daruvar's selectmen had decided to stage a
protest against UNPROFOR after the Vukovje massacre in May. The
decision is still awaiting clearance by the county authorities.
Serb guerrillas stationed on the occupied territory in western
Slavonia on May 12 ambushed eight farmers, bound them and took them
to a remote cottage. The Serb irregulars killed five of the farmers
and wounded two, while one managed to escape unscathed.
