ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - The Anti-fascist War Veterans' League
announced at a press conference on Thursday it would formally mark
the day of victory over fascism on 9 May.
"Croatian representatives have also deserved to be invited to
a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 6 June allied landing
in Normandy in France," president Ivan Fumic said, adding that 65
thousand members of the anti-fascist armed forces of Croatia had
died in World War Two.
Speaking of the present situation in Croatia, Fumic said that
"anti-fascism is being played down." "About 3,000 anti-fascist
monuments have been destroyed, only in Zagreb 1,300 streets bearing
the names of anti-fascist fighters have been renamed, and the kuna
is being introduced into the monetary system," Fumic said.
