ZAGREB, May 3 (Hina) - On his way to Sarajevo, UNESCO general
manager Federico Mayor met this morning at the Zagreb airport with
Croatian Minister of Education and Culture Vesna Girardi-Jurkic.
The Croatian Minister was accompanied by UNESCO representative
for Croatia and Slovenia Ratimir Kvaternik and representative of
the Croatian commission for co-operation with UNESCO Drazen
Karaman.
Today is the international day of press freedom and that is
one of the reasons why I am going to Sarajevo. I want to pay honour
to journalists killed in this tragic war, but also I want to
contribute to a peaceful resolution of the conflict by
negotiations, said Mayor at the Zagreb airport.
The UNESCO and UNHCR are hurriedly working on the organization
of an educational system for refugees from the former Yugoslavia,
said Federico Mayor.
