ZAGREB, Apr 8 (Hina) - Delegations of the Zagreb Jewish Community
and President Tudjman on Friday set out for the Jasenovac memorial
park to mark the Yom Hashoah, the day of remembrance of Holocaust
victims who died at the hands of Nazis in World War II.
Member of the Jewish Community delegation Jakov Bienenfeld
told Hina on Friday evening that both delegations had been told at
a UNPROFOR checkpoint near Jasenovac that Serb forces would grant
passage to the Jewish delegation only. The Jewish Community
delegation then decided not to proceed to Jasenovac, said
Bienenfeld.
The commemoration ceremony and prayer were held in Drenov Bok,
15 km upstream from Jasenovac. The participants floated wreaths of
the Jewish Community and President Tudjman down the Sava River.
