ZAGREB, Jan 2 (Hina) - The special UN Secretary General envoy
Yasushi Akashi will arrive in Zagreb on Monday, reported UN sources
in Croatia.
Akashi is expected to have his first press conference in Zagreb
since he was appointed on duty of chief-coordinator of UNPROFOR in
place of Thorvald Stoltenberg, co-chairman of Geneva Conference.
Japanese diplomat successfully coordinated a great peace operation
in Cambodia and succeeded to assure come back of 30,000 refugees to
their homes. A month ago, after his appointment, he visited former
Yugoslavia.
During that visit which was not covered by media Akashi visited
all UN sectors in Croatia in order to get acquainted with situation
in those areas.
Akashi's arrival in Zagreb local UN sources links with possible
personal changes in UNPROFOR administration which suppose to
influence on its work. UN operation in former Yugoslavia is
subjected to critics because of its bureaucratic nature and
incapability of implementing UN Security Council resolutions.
