MOSTAR MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY POSTPONED

MOSTAR, May 31 (Hina) - The reconstituent assembly of the Mostar municipality council, due to have been held on Wednesday, is postponed for the time being. During the war, this Bosnian city was administered by HVO and Bosnian Army bodies. Today's meeting of the City Council was organized by the European Administration of Mostar in a bid to restore normal civilian life in the city. Under Mostar Protocol on the Implementation of the Bosnian Federation, municipal authorities are to be re-constituted before June 1,1995. Otherwise, the matter should be settled through the mediation of EU Administration official Christian Schwartz Schilling and the final decision would lay with Administrator Hans Koschnik. The dispute about the session cropped up as regards a place where it should be held. The session had been scheduled to be convened in the Croatian centre, but the Bosniac (Moslem) side protested, and presently it was agreed that the meeting take place in the EU Administration facilities. However, Bosniac (Moslem) deputies of the Party of the Democratic Action (SDA) from eastern Mostar have not appeared today, protesting because of the fact that the session has not been convened in eastern part of the city where the town hall is situated. Deputies of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and representatives of SDA in western Mostar held consultations instead of the session on Wednesday through mediation of EU officials. During the consultation they agreed that the coordination board for establishing the assembly of the Neretva Canton should be extended with mayors of eastern and western Mostar, Orucevic and Brajkovic respectively, and EU Mostar Administrator Koschnik. The board with a key role of Koschnik, is to elect five deputies for Neretva Canton assembly, two Croats, two Bosniacs (Moslems) and one representative of citizens of other nationalities in Mostar.
