CROATIAN PRESIDENT RECEIVES DELEGATION OF BOSANSKA POSAVINA

ZAGREB, May 25 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman today received a delegation of the Bosanska Posavina region, headed by Bosnian Federation President Kresimir Zubak, the Presidential Office said in a statement. The delegation informed the President of the current military and political situation in the northern region of Bosnia-Herzegovina. They said that by mid-May the area had been exposed to the most severe attacks since the outbreak of war in Bosnia- Herzegovina. All Serb forces in the region were mobilized for the offensive with backing from special forces from other parts of Serb-held Bosnia-Herzegovina. Tens of thousands of shells were said to have pounded the area. The Croat Defence Council (HVO) successfully defended the areas under its control and, together with the local population, demonstrated exceptional courage and high morale. The delegation also informed the President of the full political unity of the Croat population in Bosnia-Herzegovina and of its cooperation with the local Bosniac Moslem population. President Tudjman spoke of the current situation in the country and of Croatia's views on the resolution of the crisis in former Yugoslavia. He commended the defenders and population of Bosanska Posavina.
