ZAGREB, May 25 (Hina) - The overall situation in Croatia was
stable today but both the Croatian army and rebel Serb forces
maintained some presence in UN-patrolled buffer zones, UN
spokesman Christopher Gunness told a press conference in Zagreb.
He reported a new Serb troop buildup on the Croatian-Bosnian
border, near the Bihac pocket, describing the situation there as
increasingly tense.
In the former Sector South, rebel Serbs continued amassing
heavy weapons seized from UN-guarded depots, Gunnes said.
Reporters were informed of new appointments recently decided
by the UN Secretary General.
Spanish ambassador Antonio Pedaue was appointed chief of the
UN mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the capacity of an aide to
the Secretary General.
Henryk Sokolski of Poland was appointed chief of civilian
affairs in the UN mission in Macedonia
Gunness said that a UNCRO chief of mission would be
appointed later on.
