SARAJEVO, May 24 (Hina) - The Health Ministry of Bosnia-Herzegovina
today reported five persons to be killed, another 30 wounded, in
today Serb artillery attack on Sarajevo. Among the wounded, at
least two were children.
The Bosnian army First Corps of Sarajevo said that Serbs had
tried to break through at the Jewish cemetery line, and on Mt.
Trebevic slopes, south Sarajevo, but were rejected. Artillery
lobbing on Trebevic was still going on Wednesday evening.
Bosnian Vice President Ejup Ganic met UN commander Rupert
Smith today, but refused to give details.
Prime Minister Haris Silajdzic forwarded a message to US State
Department asking the Administration to urge the UN to eventually
fulfill its obligations regarding Sarajevo.
Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic spoke to the state news
agency BH-Press, saying the Bosnian army was only "taking measures
to prevent Serb forces' break to the city."
"But, if necessary, everything will be done in order to remove
them from the hills," Izetbegovic said.
Asked when such an action could be expected, Izetbegovic said:
"Between May 25 and November 29," apparently joking with two major
public holidays in former Yugoslavia.
Izetbegovic said he wasn't disappointed with Serbian President
Slobodan Milosevic's refusal to recognize Bosnia, since he had not
"expected much from him."
"His willingness to accept, on principle, the Contact Group
plan is what counts. What remains under question now is only a
price of Bosnia's recognition," Izetbegovic said.
