SESSION
GENEVA, May 23 (Hina) - The International Organisation for
Migrations (IOM) Executive Council which gathers 55 countries today
held a session in Geneva.
The session concentrated on current problems of world
migrations, especially on the problems of refugees, displaced
people and national migrants.
Participators in the session, including the Croatian
delegation, discussed the latest IOM document called "Strategic
Planning Ahead of 21st Century".
Addressing the participators, Croatian representative at the
UN in Geneva, Tomislav Thuer, said that Croatia appreciated IOM's
efforts in the country, especially its programmes for reuniting
families and rehabilitating ill and wounded Croats in hospitals
abroad.
There could be neither normalization of situation in Croatia
nor return of 380,000 refugees and displaced persons, who are taken
care of by the Croatian government, without lasting political
settlement and peaceful reintegration, Thuer said.
He also said that the liberation of western Slavonia could
serve as an example for peaceful reintegration of other occupied
Croatian territories.
The action in western Slavonia made possible the return of
14,078 displaced persons, among whom 7 percent were of Serb
nationality, Thuer said.
