NATIVE SERBS WANT TO STAY IN PAKRAC

PAKRAC, May 9 (Hina) - The chairman of the Croatian government committee for inter-ethnic relations, Vladimir Dodig, said in Pakrac today that the main problem in that part of the recently liberated region was the fact that "people don't know their rights and what to do." "Now we are trying to provide to the local population as much information as possible," Dodig said. He said the civilian rule was being established but stressed that "this will not be enough unless we help the local population to overcome the feeling of fear." Dodig said that the moving of Serbs out of western Slavonia would not be in the interest of the Croatian state or those people. He added that most Serbs who had come to the Pakrac area from other places when the war broke out would like to return to their homes while the indigenous population wanted to stay.
