ZAGREB, Apr 14 (Hina) - UN forces have turned down the request of
the Croatian Association of Antifascist Veterans to visit the
Jasenovac concentration camp site on April 20.
The UN headquarters today informed the Veterans that UN was
"unable to organise such a visit because Knin Serb authorities
found unacceptable a sentence in the Veterans' letter."
"The sentence, saying that '85,000 people of various
nationalities had been killed in the Ustasha-run Jasenovac camp
during World War II' was interpreted as an attempt to deny the real
extent of Ustasha crimes," the statement said.
The Association of Antifascist Veterans had applied to the UN
also on behalf of a kindred Slovenian organisation and the Zagreb
Jewish Community.
The list of people to visit Jasenovac mainly included former
camp inmates and families of killed inmates.
