SERBS ATTACK DUBROVNIK, KARLOVAC AREAS, KILL 1, WOUND 3

ZAGREB, April 13 (Hina) - One civilian was killed and three more wounded in repeated Bosnian Serb artillery attack at the western part of Dubrovnik area, southern Croatia. The aggressor fired a total of 20 122mm projectiles, Thursday afternoon between 1600 and 1630 local time, the Croatian Ministry of Defence said in a statement. Another attack at the area had occurred Thursday morning, according to the same source, when Bosnian Serb paramilitaries (Vucurevic's followers in eastern Herzegovina) fired 21 long- range 130mm artillery shells and eight 120mm mortar shells at Konavle area, near Dubrovnik. Konavle was under alert between 1150 and 1430 local time. In the sudden and completely unprovoked attack, Serb aggressor aimed at exclusively civilian targets, the statement said. The campaign started however Wednesday morning already, when a mid-range surface-to-air SA-6 missile, from Croatia's occupied area, landed at the outskirts of Karlovac, south of Zagreb. This time, no casualties were reported, neither any material damage. The missile was estimated to be fired from the military polygon in Slunj vicinity, controlled by Serb paramilitaries, the report said. All this has been happening along with intensified efforts of Republic of Croatia and of international community towards peaceful reintegration of Croatia's occupied areas, the Ministry of Defence's statement stressed, describing both cases as drastic threats to peace efforts. The statement, signed by chief of Defence Ministry policies department, Brigadier Ivan Tolj, said Croatian army had charged its liaison officer to file a strong protest to the UN representatives.
