SARAJEVO, March 31 (Hina) - The situation in the Sarajevo area
was relatively calm today despite the fact that UN military
observers had reported 305 armed incidents in the past 24 hours.
Sarajevo police said that seven people had been killed and
another 16 had been wounded by sniper fire this week.
The commander of the Bosnian army first corps in Sarajevo,
Gen. Vahid Karavelic, said at today's meeting of the city
assembly that the Bosnian army could lift the blockade of
Sarajevo by military means, but that in that case it would be
impossible to avert destruction of the city. He added that it was
primarily a political issue.
