PULA, Feb 11 (Hina) - A Croatian Government minister and the head
of the Government's office for the displaced persons and refugees,
Adalbert Rebic, today visited Pula, Croatian Adriatic town.
He met Istria County officials, Pula authorities, and
representatives of the Istrian regional office and Rijeka office of
UNHCR to discuss the accommodation of refugees and displaced
persons in Istria.
Rebic described the care of this region for displaced people
and refugees as very good.
Afterwards Rebic visited the Pula refugee centre of "Karlo
Rojc" where 573 refugees found shelter.
The centre had been adapted from the former military barracks
to this purpose by assistance of UNHCR and a French humanitarian
agency "Bartague", which provided a million German marks for the
adaptation.
Rebic opened a reconstructed building in Sijana, which is to
accommodate 30 elderly and helpless displaced people.
The repair works on the building were worth of about 38,000
German marks. The money had been collected by the Pula-based
'IHTUS' Christian humanitarian agency with the help of donors from
Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Croatia.
"I am glad that the refugees and displaced people are
satisfied with the accommodation and care given to them in Pula,
"Rebic said at the end of his visit.
