KNIN SERBS CONTINUE USING UDBINA AIRFIELD

Autor:
ZAGREB, Feb 7 (Hina) - Czech UNPROFOR battalion officials reported that the Udbina airfield in UN Protected Area North had been used four times last week, UN spokesman in Zagreb, Paul Risley, said today. Several "Orao" jets used the airfield last Wednesday and Thursday; three "Galeb" jets took off and landed on Friday; and three "Gazela" helicopters took off on Saturday, he specified. UN Col. Walt Natynczyk said there was no evidence that the aircraft had crossed the Croatian-Bosnian border. UNPROFOR had warned Knin Serb authorities against using the Udbina airfield for any offensive activities in the Bosnia air space, Risley said. Such activities would consititute a no-fly zone violation and would undoubtedly lead to a NATO action similar to the one taken on Nov 21, 1994, Risley said. UN Force Commander, Gen. Bertrand de Lapresle, received a letter from Croatian Defence Minister Gojko Susak, in which he offered full cooperation to the UN peace-keepers during their pull- out from Croatia, Risley said. He noted that UNPROFOR had received its mandate from the UN Security Council and that it was up to the Security Council to decide on any change in the mandate, which would expire on March 31.
