BRUSSELS, Feb 3 (Hina) - The first preliminary technical talks
preparatory to the negotiations on the Agreement on Cooperation
between the European Union and Croatia, were held yesterday and
today at the European Commission, the Foreign Ministry said in a
statement.
Present was a delegation from the Croatian Government expert
services, which is to prepare the background documentation for
talks to take place in Zagreb this month.
The Agreement, drafted after a similar agreement between the
EU and Slovenia, defines trade, customs and transport cooperation
as well as mechanisms for granting Croatia financial aid to build
up infrastructure.
The Agreement does not preclude Croatia being granted
financial assistance under the PHARE program.
European partners stressed the need for Government services to
employ qualified personnel to ensure that the EU expert and
financial assistance is efficiently used.
