DUBROVNIK, Feb 2 (Hina) - Dubrovnik Mayor, Nikola Obuljen, Thursday
received Turkish Ambassador to Croatia, Yuksel Soylemez.
Soylemez visited Dubrovnik today celebrating the city and its
patron saint, St. Blaise.
Emphasizing that he was the first Turkish Ambassador to
Croatia, Soylmez said he would like to portray Turkey and its
people in a new light because the former Yugoslav propaganda used
to present Turkey rather inappropriately.
Soylemez said that Turkey was a friend of Croatia and
emphasized the good cooperation between the two countries which was
confirmed by five signed agreements on mutual cooperation.
The distinguished Turkish guest cum-poet, was interested in
the reconstruction of war-damaged city and visited the city's
archives which included a great number of documents on the
relations between the medieval-renaissance Dubrovnik Republic and
the Ottoman Empire.
The Turkish Ambassador presented the Dubrovnik Mayor with his
collection of verse which is available in 12 languages. He also
invited Obuljen to visit Turkey.
