STUTTGART, Jan 29 (Hina) - UNESCO "Fair Play" awards were presented
today in Stuttgart to prominent athletes and sports teams from all
over the world.
The people of Norway was awarded for sportsmanship and the
organization of the XVII Olympic Games in Lillehammer. The Fair
Play award was presented to King Harald V by UNESCO president
Frederico Mayor and International Fair Play Committee president
Villi Daume.
The Fair Play award for efforts against violence in sport was
given to the Federation of International Football Associations
(FIFA).
Zvone Mornar, the former editor of the "Sportske Novosti"
newpaper and a columnist in the "Slobodna Dalmacija" daily, was the
first Croatian to be presented with the UNESCO award for promoting
fair play and Olympic ideals.
UNESCO introduced the Fair Play award in 1963.
