RIJEKA, Jan 13 (Hina) - A US military delegation, headed by Navy
deputy commander for Europe Admiral David R. Moriss, today visited
the "Viktor Lenac" shipyard in the northern Adriatic city of
Rijeka.
They discussed with Croatian Deputy Defence Minister Josip
Juras technical and security conditions for the possible repair of
US war ships.
Also present were Croatian Navy deputy commander Rear-Admiral
Davorin Kajic, Military Technology Council president Major-General
Kresimir Cosic, Navy Northern Adriatic commander Rear-Admiral Bozo
Budimir and Rijeka county and municipal officials.
Moriss told reporters he was content with what he had seen and
heard, but that it was too early to speak about the beginning of
concrete cooperation.
Juras said he was pleased the US and Croatia were widening
cooperation also in this area. He said the Croatian Government and
Defence Ministry guaranteed security and unimpeded repair for US
war ships.
"Viktor Lenac" director Damir Vrhovnik said a general
agreement on the repair of US war ships had been signed in 1993 but
failed to be fulfilled because of the political and security
situation.
