HERZEGOVINA CANTON CONSTITUTION ADOPTED

MOSTAR, 23 Dec (Hina) - A session of the Herzegovina Canton started in Mostar on Monday. Already at the beginning of the session, representatives unanimously adopted the canton constitution. The Herzegovina Canton was the only out of ten Federation cantons which did not have its constitution. The reason for the delay of its adoption was a disagreement between the Croat and Bosniac sides over a Croat proposal of 8a article of the constitution. The Croat side insisted that the article should allow the Herzegovina Canton to unite with other cantons in the Croat-Muslim Federation. The Bosniac side had refused the proposal for several months and the Herzegovina Canton Constitution was adopted today without the Croat proposal. (hina) rm jn 231459 MET dec 96
