HAGUE TRIBUNAL SETS JAN. 28 FOR TRIAL IN CELEBICI CASE

THE HAGUE, Dec 18 (Hina) - Three Bosnian Moslems and a Croat charged with committing war crimes against Bosnian Serbs will stand trial on January 28 next year, the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia in The Hague announced on Tuesday. The three Moslems, Zejnil Delalic (48), Hazim Delic (32) and Esad Landza (23), and the Croat, Zdravko Mucic (41), were indicted for committing serious violations of international humanitarian law at the Celebici detention camp in the Konjic municipality of Bosnia-Herzegovina between the spring and autumn of 1992, the tribunal said in a statement. Their alleged crimes include murder, rape of female detainees, torture, beatings and inhumane treatment. The four accused pleaded not guilty to all crimes. Delalic, Mucic and Delic were responsible for running the camp and were in positions of superior authority to persons working there. The tribunal accused them of being aware that their subordinates were mistreating detainees and of failing to either prevent or punish them. Delic was also charged with individual responsibility while Landzo was charged solely as an individual perpetrator. The four men were jointly indicted on March 22, 1996 in the tribunal's first indictment dealing with Bosnian Serb victims, the statement said. Mucic was arrested by Austrian police in Vienna on March 18 this year and surrendered to the tribunal on April 9. Delalic was apprehended by German police in Munich on March 18 and handed over to the tribunal on May 8. Delic and Landzo were arrested by Bosnian authorities on May 2 and transferred to The Hague with IFOR's assistance. (hina) vm 181107 MET dec 96
