ZAGREB, Dec 17 (Hina) - The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) on
Tuesday explicitly refuted statements that selector of the Croatian
football team, Miroslav Ciro Blazevic, had accused Swedish referee
Leif Sundell of receiving a million German marks to oust the
Croatian team from further competition at the quarterfinals played
between Croatia and Germany at the European Championships in
England.
"Nobody from the (HNS), let alone selector Blazevic, ever
uttered any such accusations against referee Sundell," spokesman of
the Croatian Football Federation, Darko Tironi, said in Zagreb on
Tuesday, reacting to certain articles in domestic and foreign
newspapers.
"Moreover, Mr. Blazevic and HNS leaders kept pointing out the
excellent refereeing at the 'Euro '96' championships. Thus,
selector Blazevic and the HNS leadership categorically dissociate
themselves from the mentioned articles," Tironi said.
