HZ MANAGEMENT WARNS RAILMEN'S UNION ABOUT STRIKE DAMAGE

ZAGREB, Dec 7 (Hina) - The Croatian Railways (HZ) management on Saturday warned the Croatian Railway Workers' Union that every day of strike increased the damage for HZ and its workers. The height of salaries and other earnings of railway workers depended on the strike's length of time and the damages it caused, a statement from the HZ management said. The strike staged by the Croatian Railway Workers' Union has lasted for ten days. The HZ management requested that the Decision on trains which have to be operational during the strike, including freight trains, be respected, and it called for an end to the strike, expecting members of the Union to unit with most of its collective. By negotiations with all HZ unions which are to continue on Monday, 9 December, it was possible only to agree about important elements of the collective agreement, primarily the price per hour of work for 1997, the statement of the office of the HZ General Director, Marijan Klaric, said.
