IFOR spokesman in Sarajevo Bratt Boudreau said on Friday that
the conference was supposed to be held in a factory in Bosanska
Krupa.
A larger group of women employed in the factory staged a
protest when they saw Serb reporters from Banja Luka arrive at the
scene.
The reporters had been verbally threatened and the
participants in the protest had tried to prevent them from leaving
when the conference had been canceled, Boudreau said.
He described the incident as disappointing, especially
considering the fact that NATO soldiers were trying to ensure
freedom of movement for all.
However, he stressed that this would not force IFOR to give up
joint news conferences in both entities, adding that the IFOR
command from Banja Luka would continue to do so next week.
