ZAGREB, 5 Dec (Hina) - The Croatian Journalists' Association (HND) on Thursday sent a letter to the U.N. Transitional Administrator, General Jacques Klein, protesting against yesterday's incident in which a group of Croatian journalists, who arrived in Vukovar to attend the opening of an exhibition of Croat and Serb children's works, was attacked by a group of Serb extremists. #L# The HND received with disapproval the news on the harassment of Croatian journalists who had been invited to Vukovar to attend the opening of the exhibition, the letter said. 'We know that our job can sometimes be very dangerous, especially in war or war-like conditions, but if UNTAES invited the journalists to cover the event, then it should have taken care of their security. The journalists who were in Vukovar were under no protection whatsoever and the organizer of the event has to blamed for everything that happened to them. We resolutely ask that on future similar occasions UNTAES show that it takes its role seriously and that it can protect our colleagues effectively', said the letter, signed by the HND President Jagoda Vukusic. Croatian reporters, based in Osijek or working as correspondents in Osijek, today protested strongly against 'the jeopardy to which the Croatian journalists were exposed yesterday, during their stay in Vukovar, which was organized by UNTAES'. The journalists demanded from the Transitional Administration and its head Jacques Klein to personally guarantee the security of Croatian journalists visiting the UN-administered area as well as police escort for any organized group visit to the area and the presence of employees of the UNTAES Information Department in vehicles carrying Croatian journalists.
