LIVNO CROATS AND MOSLEMS REACH AGREEMENT

Autor:
LIVNO, Nov 17 (Hina) - European mediator for the (Croat-Moslem) Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Christian Schwarz Schilling, held a closed-door meeting with Croat and Moslem leaders in Herzeg-Bosna Canton (southwestern Bosnia), on Saturday. After the Livno meeting, Schwarz Schilling told reporters the discussion had revolved around problems in the canton, and situation in the area before and in the wake of the September elections. He made available conclusions of an agreement that representatives of both constituent peoples had signed last night. The two sides agreed that the Croat-Moslem (Bosniak) Federation must be implemented on all levels from the Federation to municipalities. They agreed that the canton government with its ministers should begin to function as of January 1, 1997, under the Federation's Constitution and laws and the Dayton peace accords. The Moslem side promised not to obstruct the work of the Livno transitional municipal elections. The two sides accepted that symbols used in official documents should be in line with the Federation's Constitution and laws. Herzeg-Bosna (Livno) canton governor and premier, Marko Bakovic and Filip Andric undertook commitments to convening transitional municipal councils of Livno, Kupres and Tomislavgrad in November. The canton governor also committed himself, along with the Federal ombudsmen's office, of establishing a commission for verifying reports by ombudsmen on unfair dismissal of workers.
