EACH S.E. EUROPEAN COUNTRY TO NEGOTIATE WITH EU INDIVIDUALLY - GRA

GRA $ NIC PARIS, Nov 14 (Hina) - The international community wanted to establish permanent peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina through various institutions and through economy, Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic said after the conference on consolidating Bosnian peace in Paris on Thursday. The conference enumerated different initiatives on regional cooperation which conveyed different interests, Granic said. He described the South-Eastern European Cooperation initiative (SECI) as an indication of America's wish for economic presence in the region, as well as military presence. He stressed that Croatia was not yet formally introduced to the initiative. Croatia had been against institutional linkage in the region from the start, and after the Paris conference, nobody mentioned any kind of associations, Granic said. The European Union was now interpreting its so-called regional approach to south-eastern European countries more mildly - as a basis for economic relations with each individual country and as a basis for the economic development of the region. Every country would negotiate separately and contracts with the EU would be individual, Granic said. In the political context, the European Union approach to the region was connected to the peace process, which for Croatia meant a resolution to the Croatian Danubian area issue, Granic stressed, adding that, to that effect, Croatia would support full cooperation with General Jacques Klein's Office. The process of reintegration should proceed according to an agreement reached between President Tudjman and General Klein in the first six months of next year. In that period, elections should take place so that the UN mandate could end in the next six months in the form of a monitoring mission, Granic said. (hina) lm jn 142017 MET nov 96
