ZAGREB, Nov 11 (Hina) - The Croatian President and supreme
commander of the Armed Forces, Franjo Tudjman, on Monday appointed
Col. Gen. Pavao Miljavac Croatian army chief-of-staff, relieving
his predecessor Gen. Zvonimir Cervenko, who has reached retirement
age.
Former commander of the Karlovac military zone, Col. Gen.
Miljavac held the office of deputy chief-of-staff just before his
promotion.
President Tudjman appointed rear admiral Davor Domazet-Loso
deputy chgief-of-staff. Staff Brig. Ivan Pokaz succeeded Domazet-
Loso as head of the Croatian army Staff Intelligence Department.
The appointments become effective as of Nov 16.
President Tudjman on Monday received Gen. Cervenko and
decorated him with the High Order of King Petar kresimir IV with a
sash and Morning Star, the President's office said in a statement.
"Gen. Cervenko is a worthy recipient of this decoration, given
his contribution in organising the defence of the city of Zagreb in
the first days of the creation of independent and sovereign
Croatia, in organising Croatian reserve units in accordance both
with historical tradition of the "domobrani" and the present needs
of the Croatian army, and, as chief-of-staff, in the building of
the Croatian army and its command during the Homeland War,"
President Tudjman said.
The reception was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ljerka
Mintas-Hodak and Defence Minister Gojko Susak.
