MOSTAR, Oct 19 (Hina) - No agreement was reached after nearly
three-hour talks on Saturday between Croat and Moslem
representatives on the chain of command in the joint police force
in downtown Mostar.
The talks, held behind closed doors, involved the Herzegovina
Canton minister of the interior of the Herzegovina Canton, the
Croat Valentin Coric, his Moslem deputy Sefkija Dziha as well as
International Police Task Force and EU representatives in Mostar.
"Our view is that the joint police force should be placed
under a joint command consisting of one Croat, one Moslem and one
international police representative," Coric told reporters after
the talks.
According to Coric, the Moslems insisted that a Moslem be
appointed to the office of Superintendent of the joint police
force.
In the meantime, the joint police force will be commanded by
the canton's minister of the interior and his deputy. An agreement
to this effect was signed at today's meeting.
