ZAGREB, Oct 17 (Hina) - In connection with the opening of the
European Commission's office for reconstruction of Vukovar, the
Croatian government's public relations office on Thursday sent
Hina a copy of a letter which Deputy Prime Minister Ivica
Kostovic had forwarded to UN Transitional Administrator Jacques
Klein in July.
The letter specified which UNTAES-drafted programmes for the
reconstruction of the Croatian Danuber river area had been
accepted fully or partially by the Croatian government and which
had been rejected.
The Government of the Republic of Croatia fully accepted the
following programmes:
- reconstruction of the main water supply system,
- reconstruction of the suction dredge,
- restoration of hot water supply to Olajnica,
- reconstruction of the water supply network to Olajnica,
- reconstruction of the Institute for Preschool Education.
The programmes which were acceptable with certain changes
included:
- the cleaning of water wells and the digging of new ones,
- repair and purchase of new equipment for pumping sites and
water purification installations,
- revitalization of villages.
The programmes rejected by the Croatian Government included:
- removal of war rubble and destroyed buildings not safe for
living in,
- repair of houses and apartments,
- construction of health care offices.
Kostovic concluded the letter by saying that the Croatian
government agreed that the funds proposed for the three
programmes it had rejected should be placed at the disposal of
the UN Transitional Administration.
