The Dutch Premier welcomed Croatia's admission to the Council
of Europe and supported the country's orientation toward European
and Atlantic integration.
As the Netherlands is to chair the EU as of January 1, 1997,
Kok was interested in the situation in the former Yugoslavia's
region. He pointed out a constructive role of Croatia in the entire
peace process.
He reiterated the EU's stance that the EU wants Croatia to be
a part of European integration processes, and it also wants
stability in the region. Therefore the EU is particularly
interested in Croatia's relations with neighbouring countries.
Since his country would like to promote economic cooperation
with Croatia, Kok asked Granic also about the economic situation in
Croatia and how the country was solving its social problems.
