ZAGREB, 12 Oct (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Saturday received a delegation of the 'World Self-Government of
Hungarian Croats' (ZSHM), a statement from the President's office
said.
ZSHM president Mijo Karagic informed President Tudjman about
political and cultural activities of Croats living in Hungary.
The Croat minority in Hungary had 60 schools and
kindergartens, and two high schools with classes in the Croatian
language, Karagic said.
Despite certain efforts during the former Communist regime in
Hungary, aimed at creating a kind of South-Slav minority in
Hungary, which was in accordance with the former Yugoslav policy,
Hungarian Croats managed to preserve their identity, and strengthen
it after the establishment of Croatia's independence, President
Tudjman said.
Present at the meeting at President Tudjman's side were
Immigration Minister Marijan Petrovic, internal policy advisor Ivic
Pasalic and Croatia's Ambassador to Hungary, Zdenko Skrabalo.
The ZSHM delegation included Miso Hepp, Vince Hergovic, Joso
Ostrogonac and Stipan Karagic, the statement said.
