KNEZEVO, Oct 4 (Hina) - The Croatian border crossing Knezevo-Udvar
was ceremonially opened on Friday. The opening was attended by
Croatia's, Hungary's and UN officials.
Croatia's two customs officers, wearing suits without
Croatia's state signs, and UN Transitional Administration for
Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES) representatives will work at the border
crossing. Croatian customs and currency regulations will take
effect there.
UNTAES Transitional Administrator General Jacques Klein said
residents of the Croatian Danubian area would freely use the
crossing when travelling to Hungary if they had Croatia's documents
and identity papers.
People who live in the area should be Croatian citizens and
take Croatian documents, as the area is de jure a part of Croatia,
according to UN resolutions, the American General told Serbian
journalists from the region under the UN Transitional
Administration.
Those people who did not accept Croatian documents, showed
that they did not want to be citizens of the country where they
were living. This is neither logical nor intelligent. The fact that
Croatian customs officers were at the border crossing was more
important that there were flags, he said.
He added that the possession of Croatian documents would
enable people to cast their votes at elections.
