ZAGREB, Sept 22 (Hina) - A Croatian Parliament delegation headed by Mate
Mestrovic on Sunday returned to Zagreb from Beijing where it had attened
the 96th conference of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU).
Parliamentarians from 133 countries had adopted a resolution calling
for a ban on the production of anti-personnel mines, Mestrovic told
reporters.
Speaking of the most important topics discussed at the conference,
Mestrovic said that some Croatian views were included in a resolution on
the protection of women and children.
The IPU voiced concern about violations of parliamentary immunity and
the arresting and killing of members of parliament. Mestrovic cited the
case of Myanmar (Burma) where 31 members of parliament were currently in
prison.
The IPU was established in 1889 and meets every six months. Its next
conference will take place in South Korea.
