SARAJEVO, Sept 21 (Hina) - The chief of the Serb police in the
northwestern town of Prijedor was relieved of duty on Friday at
the insistence of the NATO-led peace Implementation Force (IFOR)
in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Drljaca was replaced by his deputy, Dusko Jankovic, who will
hold the post until the appointment of a new chief of police in
Prijedor, IFOR said in a statement Friday night.
Drljaca and his men provoked a serious incident on Friday by
threatening a Czech IFOR patrol who had tried to confiscate
banned automatic weapons from Serb police officers.
On Friday, the Serb police handed over 11 automatic weapons
used in the incident.
IFOR ground troops commander Lt. Gen. Michael Walker said
that Serb interior minister Dragan Kijac had given firm assurance
that Drljaca would in no way be engaged on the Prijedor police
force.
