SARAJEVO, Sept 14 (Hina) - Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic
said in Sarajevo on Saturday after he cast his vote in the first
post-war election that he was confident that Bosnia-Herzegovina
would survive as an independent and unified state.
Asked by a journalist about the possibility of a resumption
of war, Izetbegovic, a Moslem candidate for a three-man
collective presidency, said: "In my opinion there will be no war,
but I haven't proved myself as a good forecaster."
Bosnian Federation President Kresimir Zubak, a Croat
candidate for the collective presidency, voted in the Croat
enclave of Usora in northern Bosnia.
Zubak said that although elections were not completely fair,
he expected that "they will enable the establishment of legal
institutions of power in Bosnia-Herzegovina and ensure peace."
Bosnian Prime Minister Hasan Muratovic said in Sarajevo that
the election was proceeding according to plan. He expressed firm
conviction that the war was over.
Sarajevo's Roman Catholic Archbishop, Vinko Puljic, said
that the biggest drawback of the election was the fact that
refugees had not returned to their homes. "I believe that the
election is a small step in the process of building peace," he
added.
