The President of the German Constitutional Court, Jutta
Limbach, and her Croatian counterpart Jadranko Crnic informed
President Tudjman about the successful cooperation between the two
courts, which was established in 1992.
President Tudjman recalled the long history of Croatian laws,
from the Vinodolski and Istrian codes until present days.
'Until now, we were faced not only with a war and aggression,
but with Croatia's departure from the Communist system, which
created many difficulties in the implementation of adopted laws. We
are not completely satisfied with the current implementation of
laws, but we have achieved a lot and we will strive to achieve the
full implementation of our laws', Tudjman said.
Dr Limbach stressed that she was well acquainted with the
history of law in Croatia, adding that fifty years of Communist
darkness had not destroyed the western affiliation of Croatia's
legal system.
Present at the meeting at President Tudjman's side were also
President's Chief-Of-Staff Ivo Sanader, advisor on legal matters
Smiljko Sokol, foreign policy advisor Zeljko Matic and Deputy
Chief-Of-Staff Vesna Skare-Ozbolt.
The German delegation also included the Constitutional Court
Vice President Otto Seidel, and Director Karl-Georg Zierlein.
Present at the meeting were also Croatian Constitutional Court
Vice President Zdravko Bartovcak and Velimir Belajec, the statement
said.
