After he visited the area, Matesa met with local municipal
leaders and discussed with them short and long-term measures for
the reconstruction of the area.
'The damage is really extensive and it demands planned, long-
term reconstruction measures which will be supported by the
Government', Matesa said after the meeting.
'The most important task is to provide accommodation for the
people who lost their homes. Some of them will stay with their
relatives and some will be accommodated in hotels in Neum and
Orebic. Those who want to stay here will be accommodated in tents',
Matesa said.
The reconstruction of heavily damaged houses would take some
time, while the reconstruction of less damaged houses could last
some ten days, Matesa said.
The Croatian premier also visited the Adriatic highway, which
was also heavily damaged in the earthquake.
Dubrovnik Bishop Zelimir Puljic also visited the area on
Friday.
